Dear Dodge readers, writers, and community:
I’m delighted to announce that Marlo Starr will be taking over as Editor in Chief of The Dodge. In August, Marlo will begin teaching creative writing at the College of Wooster, where The Dodge is based. For the last year, I’ve been editing The Dodge long-distance from my new position at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, with the help of our wonderful volunteer editorial team, including Managing Editor Jamie A. M.
Our magazine’s founding editor, Dan Bourne, began teaching literary editing and publishing to students at Wooster via The Artful Dodge decades ago. Many of Dan’s Wooster students and mine have drawn on their experiences working on the journal to launch careers in publishing/writing and to continually enrich their lives through literature. I felt strongly that The Dodge should stay at Wooster, where it will continue to benefit students and the English department.
I’m so proud of the rebooted Dodge and the wonderful eco-writing we’ve published as a team: we had our first Best of the Net anthology acceptance this year, and we’re working on new ideas involving data science-derived writing prompts, alternative submission methods, etc. I will still be part of the editorial team–I’ll be stepping into a co-Fiction Editor role with Addison Zeller. I’m excited to read your work and equally excited to work with Marlo as our new Editor in Chief.
Thank you all for your support of The Dodge and your interest in the work we publish!

I’m thrilled to take on the role of Editor of Chief of The Dodge this Fall. I know I have big shoes to fill as Kate steps into her new position as co-Fiction Editor with Addison. I’m grateful for her guidance and commitment and for the dedication of the rest of our incredible editorial staff of volunteers. Over the next few months, my goals are to preserve the legacy established by Dan, Founding Editor of The Artful Dodge, and Kate, Editor in Chief of the relaunched Dodge since 2021, while also branching into new directions.
As a literary researcher, my work focuses on contemporary environmental writing that grapples with histories of empire, conquest, and displacement. As editor, I look forward to reading and continuing to publish vital works of eco-writing and translation that push us to imagine just futures and just relationships between human and nonhuman life. I’m also eager to nurture the gifts of young writers and editors at Wooster, who will continue to play an important part in growing the magazine.
Thank you for reading and supporting The Dodge!
—Marlo Starr
